Prototype card games before you print a factory deck
Game designers and teachers often need quick iterations: sketch a rule change, shuffle a homemade deck, see if it breaks. These rectangles approximate poker dimensions (2.5″ × 3.5″) scaled to fit a grid—after printing, measure one card with a ruler; if you need tournament-exact sizing, adjust your printer scaling or choose the 3×2 layout for slightly larger faces.
Finishing techniques
- Sleeves — standard card sleeves forgive rough cuts and let you slip paper prototypes in and out.
- Glue stick + scrap cardstock — print backs on a second sheet, sandwich onto cereal-box cardboard, press overnight.
- Laminating — great for young kids; round corners after lamination so sleeves slide easily.
Ideas beyond poker
Use blanks for vocabulary pairs, conversation starters, chore roulette, or SEL prompts. Number the corners in pencil if you need to track duplicates during playtesting.
