What is engineering paper?

Engineering graph paper (often green) is used for sketches, graphs, and rough CAD-free layouts. A title block records drawing title, project, scale, sheet index, date, and author — the same fields you would see on formal technical drawings, scaled down for homework and lab notebooks.

Lines are 1 mm apart with every fifth line emphasized — a common metric convention. You can turn off the green tint for plainer printing or disable the title block when you only need a blank green grid.

Where it helps

  • STEM classes: quick plots, free-body diagrams, and circuit sketches with readable metric spacing.
  • Design and tech: thumbnail concepts before moving to CAD; title block fields reinforce good documentation habits.
  • Science fairs and labs: hand-drawn graphs that still look tidy when taped into a binder.

For neutral square grids with custom spacing, use graph paper; for log scales, see log / semi-log paper; for isometric 3D sketches, isometric paper.
