Coop locked at dusk and water topped — that's 80% of survival

Two things kill backyard flocks: a predator that found a coop unlocked at dusk, and a hot day with an empty waterer. Both are checklist items, not skills. This daily-check sheet keeps the two life-critical columns front and center, and the rest (eggs, feed, behavior) becomes the calendar of your flock's productive year.

Eggs collected column doubles as a health log — a sudden drop, soft shells, or unusually small eggs all signal stress, calcium deficiency, or molt. Trends matter more than any one day.

Behavior / pecking / lethargy is the early-warning column — chickens hide illness almost as well as birds, and a hen who's *quiet at the back of the run* is often the one to lose. Isolate and observe.

Pair with the Pet First Aid Kit Checklist for emergency supplies and the Pet Medication Schedule if you're treating an active flock issue. Local agricultural extension offices have great regional disease guidance.
