How this canvas differs from a business plan
The Business Model Canvas is a one-page map of how you create, deliver, and capture value. It is meant for iteration: you sketch hypotheses, talk to customers, and revise blocks without rewriting a long document. Alexander Osterwalder’s original layout uses uneven column widths; this printable uses a clear 3×3 grid so every block has equal room on standard paper — ideal for workshops and classrooms.
Start from customer segments and value proposition so the rest of the sheet answers “how we reach them” and “how we get paid.” Costs and revenue belong together at the end so you can sanity-check margins against the story in the top rows.
Facilitation tips
- Use sticky notes first, then transcribe the final wording onto this PDF.
- One business model per sheet — if you have B2B and B2C, print two canvases.
- Pair with SWOT to stress-test assumptions after you fill the blocks.
