How this differs from plain staff paper
Our Music Staff Paper generator draws only horizontal five-line staves. This template adds vertical bar lines so each staff is split into clear measure boxes — closer to printed sheet music and helpful when you are counting beats, teaching beginners where measures begin and end, or blocking out chord changes per bar.
Choosing measures per staff
Wider measures (fewer per line) give room for dense notation; more measures per line fits longer phrases on one page. For homework dictation, teachers often use 4 measures per staff; for sketching chord charts by bar, try 2–3 wider columns.
Printing tips
- Use 80–100 lb cardstock if students will erase heavily; standard office paper works for pencil drafts.
- Print at 100% scale (no "fit to page") so millimeter spacing stays true to the slider.
- Pair with Guitar Tab Paper if you are writing both standard notation and TAB for the same piece.
Classroom and studio ideas
Use bar lines to assign one rhythm per measure, circle problem measures, or ask students to complete only empty measures you leave between double bars. This is a neutral template — add clefs, time signatures, and key signatures by hand or in notation software when you are ready for a final score.
