Built for the truck, not the office
A work order is the document a technician writes on with a clipboard at the job site. Unlike an invoice, it splits parts and labor on separate tables (different tax treatment in many states), and it has both a customer signature (auth to do work) and a tech sign-off (work completed).
Workflow
- Send a quote if the work is non-trivial.
- On accept, fill this work order at the start of the visit; customer signs to authorize.
- Add parts and labor as you go; total at the end.
- Convert to an invoice for billing.
- Log mileage and fuel separately on the mileage log.
